Construction Accountant

Hoffman Estates, IL | Hybrid | Up to $110K

Are you a Project or Construction Accountant looking for an opportunity where you can make an immediate impact and help build something rather than simply follow an established process?

A rapidly growing, PE-backed organization is adding a Construction Accountant to its accounting team. This is a newly created position supporting a company that has experienced significant growth and expects to continue expanding through acquisitions.

The Opportunity

This role will take ownership of key areas of project accounting, job costing, WIP, project budgets, forecasting, and project profitability . You'll work closely with Project Managers and the accounting team to ensure projects are accurately tracked and financial results are timely and reliable.

Because project margins directly impact sales commissions, this is a highly visible and important position within the organization.

You'll also have the opportunity to help establish and improve processes as the company continues to scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage project accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting
• Prepare and monitor project budgets and forecasts
• Track project actuals versus budget and analyze variances
• Analyze project margins and profitability
• Support revenue recognition under ASC 606
• Handle project invoicing and related accounting activities
• Partner with Project Managers to review budgets, costs, margins, and financial performance
• Support the monthly close process
• Help establish scalable processes and controls for a growing organization
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting, efficiency, and accuracy

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of accounting experience
• Project accounting, construction accounting, job costing, or similar experience
• Manufacturing experience is a plus
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, but strong relevant experience will be considered
• Monthly close experience preferred
• Strong Excel skills
• Experience with Salesforce or other technology-driven accounting environments is a plus
• Experience with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot or Claude is a plus
• Public accounting experience will be considered
• M&A or PE-backed company experience is a plus

Compensation: $90K–$110K

Hybrid schedule: 2 days per week in the Hoffman Estates office
